As promised, I am reporting on the results of my recent upgrade to Microsoft’s newest operating system, the numerically titled “Windows 7”. Oh and never mind that it is not technically Bill’s 7th OS, maybe he was just looking for a little numerological mojo after the PR disaster that was Vista.
Since its official release two months ago, I have set up several PCs with Windows 7 preinstalled, did a clean install on my 4 year old laptop, and upgraded my wife’s’ 2009 model HP laptop which had Vista Home Premium. To date I have had nothing but success with the new OS but I had been waiting to upgrade my primary desktop…

Windows 7 isn’t just getting good reviews, it’s also selling well, CEO Steve Ballmer told shareholders Thursday.
Delivering opening remarks at Microsoft’s shareholder meeting, Ballmer said that Windows 7 was off to a “fantastic start.”
“We’ve already sold twice as many units as any OS in a comparable time frame,” Ballmer said. “Windows 7 is simply the best PC operating system that we or anyone else has ever built.”

By last week, Windows 7 accounted for 4 percent of Web-accessing devices, according to Net Applications; it took Vista more than seven months to reach that level.
As promised I wanted to let you know the results of UPGRADING to Windows 7 on an existing Windows Vista Laptop….
My wife had purchased a run of the mill HP laptop from the local superstore a few months ago–it had Windows Vista Premium 32bit, 3 GB RAM, and the Pentium Dual Core CPU. She was very happy with the performance, and as she just uses it to RDP to her work computer, surf the Internet and do a few MS Office 2007 documents, it was a possible candidate for a custom/clean install, but since I had already done a clean install on MY laptop that went smoothly(see blog post below about how that went)., it was time to test the UPGRADE.
As a Microsoft Certified Partner, my company, The Computer Doctor got our Windows 7 final copy last week as the official date for the new operating system has been confirmed for October 22nd.
This old laptop will run Windows 7???
The old Compaq Presario laptop (purchased November 2005, 2GB RAM, AMD Turion 64 processor, 60 GB hard drive) has served me pretty well with a factory installed Windows XP Pro SP2 which I have since installed a dual boot of Windows XP Pro 64bit, Windows Vista Business, Windows 7 Beta release, and now, Windows 7.
I was dispatched to help set up a new PC for one of my customers and perform a data transfer from his old Windows XP PC. Got the new PC all setup, programs installed, got it on the network and then booted up the old PC…and waited…and waited…until it came up with what I refer to as the BLACK screen of death. You all have heard about the BLUE screen of death, the cryptic Windows error dump file that likes to flash on the screen and spiral downward into a sea of continuous reboots –but what about the BLACK screen of death?

By the end of this year, Microsoft will have gone and done it again: they are releasing the another new operating system (OS), called WINDOWS 7. Everybody knows Bill Gates needs the money, but after the controversial release of Windows Vista in 2007, many of my customers are a little skeptical about going to Windows 7. Here is my top ten list of why you want Windows 7:
